The light fantastic

As an all weather cyclist, being seen in the dark is pretty important.

I run two rear lights, two front lights, plus I sometimes have a directional head torch too.

But for being seen, these look pretty amazing. They detect how fast your wheel is turning, and shine at the right moment to light up the front and back third of your wheel. When you’re stopped they strobe round in a circle to draw attention.

I don’t think the front has enough throw to illuminate an unlit road, so for actually seeing where you’re going another light would be required, but for pure “look at me (and don’t crash into me!)” they are, literally, brilliant.

No word on ETA, but I’ll be interested in getting a proper look.

Good stuff. We should get something like this in the UK.

The ordinance … makes it a crime for drivers to threaten cyclists verbally or physically, and allows victims of harassment to sue in civil court without waiting for the city to press criminal charges.

Hitchhiking snails scoffed, pooped out alive by birds • The Register

You wouldn’t have thought that snails would benefit from being eaten by birds, but check this out.

Scientists have discovered that certain species of Japanese snail can not only survive being eaten and then excreted by birds, they actually benefit from the process in many cases by finding themselves deposited in new uncropped habitats

Fascinating stuff.
